ABOUT 6D
Founded in 2007 and incorporated in 2013, 6D Inc. is an architecture and interior design studio based in Tokyo. Rooted in Japanese aesthetics, the studio draws inspiration from the spirit of mitate (the art of reinterpretation), the philosophy of mingei, harmony with nature, the sensibility of wabi-sabi, and the subtle transitions of the four seasons, transforming diverse ideas and aspirations into spaces of lasting value.
We believe that truly refined design emerges from the harmony between functionality and beauty. Spaces should support human activity while respecting the climate, culture, and historical context of their place. Our practice spans architecture, interior design, product design, and concept development, integrating the spirit of Japanese craftsmanship with contemporary culture to create meaningful spatial experiences.
Every project begins with careful listening. By understanding the aspirations of our clients, the potential of a site, and the cultural narratives embedded in a place, we work in close collaboration with craftsmen and specialists to create designs that deepen in value over time.
Beginning in 2026, we will gradually shift our creative focus toward the nature-rich environment of Hokkaido and launch Atelier 6D. Surrounded by expansive landscapes and a slower rhythm of life, the studio will continue refining its sensibilities while exploring spaces where nature, culture, and human experience exist in harmony.
2007 年に設立し、2013年に法人化した株式会社6Dは、東京を拠点とする建築・インテリアデザインスタジオです。日本の美意識に根ざし、見立ての精神、民藝の思想、自然との調和、侘び寂びの感性、そして四季の移ろいを手がかりに、さまざまな想いを価値ある空間へと昇華することを目指しています。
私たちは、優れたデザインとは機能性と美しさが調和したものであると考えています。空間は人の営みに寄り添いながら、その土地の風土、文化、歴史的文脈を尊重するものであるべきです。建築、インテリア、プロダクト、コンセプトデザインまで領域を横断し、日本の手仕事の精神と現代カルチャーを融合させながら、質の高い空間体験を提案しています。
すべてのプロジェクトは丁寧に耳を傾けることから始まります。クライアントの想い、敷地の可能性、地域に息づく文化を読み解き、職人や専門家との協働を通して、時間とともに価値を深めていくデザインを実現します。
2026 年より感性をさらに磨くため、自然豊かな北海道へ少しずつ軸足を移しながら Atelier 6D を始動します。大自然に囲まれた環境の中で、静かな時間の流れと向き合いながら、自然・文化・人の営みが調和する空間を探求していきます。
PHILOSOPHY
Our design philosophy is rooted in the Japanese cultural concept of shitsurai. Shitsurai refers to the aesthetic practice of arranging and preparing a place according to its purpose, the season, the occasion, and the presence of guests. It is not simply interior decoration, but a cultural act of shaping a space through time, seasonality, and human relationships.
By expressing materials and structures honestly, and by leaving intentional room within space rather than asserting excessive form, we create environments where human activity and the passage of time can naturally unfold.
As suggested by the sensibility of wabi-sabi, beauty is not limited to the moment of completion, but also resides in the passage of time and the process of aging. Through natural materials, nuanced light and shadow, and calm spatial compositions, we design environments where seasonal change and everyday life become gently embedded in space.
At the same time, we engage with contemporary Japanese culture — emerging from architecture, art, fashion, and subculture — while exploring design possibilities where tradition and modernity coexist.
Sustainability is not an added value but a fundamental premise of our design process. By prioritizing durable materials, environmentally responsive design strategies, and details intended for long-term use, we enhance spatial quality while minimizing environmental impact.
私たちのデザイン哲学は、日本の生活文化に息づく「しつらい」の思想に根ざしています。「しつらい」とは空間や場を、その目的・季節・来客・行事に合わせて整える日本の生活文化・美意識を指す言葉です。単なる「インテリア」や「装飾」ではなく、時間・季節・人の関係性を含めて場を整える行為を意味します。素材や構造のあり方を誠実に表現し、過度に主張するのではなく、空間に余白を残すことで、人の営みや時間の変化が自然に重なっていく場を生み出します。
侘び寂びの感覚が示すように、美しさは完成された瞬間だけでなく、時間の経過や風化の中にも宿ります。私たちは、自然素材、陰影のある光、静けさのある構成を通して、季節の変化や日常の営みが空間に溶け込む設計を行います。
同時に、日本の現代文化—建築、アート、ファッション、サブカルチャーから生まれる新しい感覚—を取り込みながら、伝統と現代が共存するデザインの可能性を探求しています。
サステナビリティは単なる付加価値ではなく、設計の前提です。耐久性の高い素材、自然環境を活かす設計手法、長く使われることを前提としたディテールを通して、環境負荷を抑えながら空間の質を高めます。

INTERIOR DESIGN
Interior design for hotels, commercial spaces, and residences. Through careful material selection, lighting design, and the composition of furniture and details, we reinterpret the Japanese philosophy of shitsurai as contemporary spatial experiences.
